The garlic shrimp and garlic rice were absolutely amazing!!! The hot and spicy shrimp were every bit as good, but be warned, they are sneaky spicy. They start out even tempered, but build to a glorious heat by the time you finish mixing the rice in with all the left over hot sauce.
Shrimp were well done. The line moves surprisingly fast even though I was #29 in line to order when I arrived (I counted). The staff was courteous and very friendly. Portion sizes could be a little bigger as I was still hungry after I was finished is my only recommendation.
My favorite place by far to go to. I love em. I've tried Romy's, Famous, and others but they don't compare to Giovanni's. of course it's based on personal preference. Some friends love the others more.
We tried other shrimp places on the island, but I can decidedly say that this was the best we had. I decided to try their hot and spicy shrimp. which their waitress said was extremely spicy since it's boiled in the hot sauce. Once the shell comes off, though, it is less spicy than advertised. The shrimp has a delicious crunch to it and the shell leaves in all the flavors. The rice was a nice relief from the spicy shrimp which left my mouth burning for a bit. In overall taste, they know how to provide the best shrimp and the best sauce to go with it.
Bring cash, they don’t take cards.
Naturally, this place is very crowded with long lines. Make sure you call in and order over the phone. You still have to wait in line to pay for your order but at least you don't have to wait again for it to took.
You can ask for hot sauce for your shrimp, and i love the way it tastes.
Do not get the spicy shrimp unless you have a death wish. I like spicy food. This is so spicy I couldn’t finish it. I witnessed an elderly Japanese woman mistakenly order the spicy shrimp and she was literally wiping her mouth and tongue with a napkin trying to remove the hot. If you get it and it’s too spicy- it’s your problem- their sign says they won’t give a refund or exchange ( I did see they gave the elderly Japanese woman an exchange though). No coconut shrimp. Underwhelmed.
Had the hot and spicy shrimp. It is definitely hot, but not unbearable which they attempt to apparently scare people away with the “no refund” notation on the menu; it can be eaten but if you’re not used to spicy food I wouldn’t recommend it.
